Future-proofing your skin has moved to a whole new level with the introduction of exosomes.

What are exosomes?

Exosomes look like little bubbles that are released from a living cell and absorbed by nearby cells. These bubbles contain growth factors, RNA and lipids, molecules which can reprogram adjacent cells. This is a method of cell to cell communication in our bodies that is going on all the time.

(plated) SKIN SCIENCE INTENSE SERUM contains exosomes derived from platelets, a component of our blood.Image of golden pump bottle of (plated) INTENSE SERUM

Why use platelet-derived exosomes?

Platelets are one of the first responders when we get an injury. They migrate into the injured tissue and release their exosomes to direct cells in the injured area to produce the components needed for repairing the damage.

Another reason supporting using platelet-derived exosomes for facial rejuvenation is our experience with PRP (platelet rich plasma). You might recognize PRP as part of the Vampire Facial. PRP is also used extensively in Orthopedics to assist with joint problems and ligament repairs.

We have a track record of knowing that platelets are safe, effective and rarely associated with adverse effects.

We also know that the effectiveness of PRP varies from person to person and can decline with age so developing a product of purified platelet-derived exosomes for facial rejuvenation makes sense. It would assure that everyone would get a highly concentrated and effective platelet product.

Exosome products require a lot of attention to quality control, specifically regarding purification, batch consistency, concentration and characterization. You need to make sure that the supplier has been vetted by Health Canada here in Canada or the FDA in the USA.

Clinical evidence for (plated) SKIN SCIENCE INTENSE SERUM

The clinical trials for (plated) SKIN SCIENCE INTENSE SERUM were conducted at the Mayo Clinic. The study designs were approved by the Mayo Clinic’s Internal Review Board (IRB) and the patients were recruited from the Mayo Clinic’s dermatology clinics.

Results from these trials showed significant improvement in skin texture, radiance and firmness.
